Cameo has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against OpenAI in a California federal court, alleging that the AI company's use of "cameo" as a feature name in its Sora video app could harm Cameo's reputation. The feature allows users to create deepfake copies of individuals, raising concerns about unauthorized use and weak safety measures.

Founded in 2017, Cameo's platform enables fans to purchase personalized videos or live calls from celebrities and influencers. OpenAI's Sora app, launched on September 30, includes a "cameo" feature that has sparked controversy due to its potential for misuse. Cameo CEO Steven Galanis emphasized that litigation was a last resort after failed private settlement attempts.
